Sites That Build a Community

The College Councelor

Dear Mark,

I have received your consent and I will be willing to provide you with some college advice. Firstly, I have to say that you need to improve your digital reputation..since I found some shocking things about you.

After Google-ing you,I could tell not only what kind of person you are, but how you act. When I searched your name in Google, a news report came about, it talked about a time when you had gotten into a fight with a police-officer after driving drunk. Things like this can affect the impression you give to the College you want to apply for.
I have to warn you that even though, you may have the best grades at school or the best conduct, that isn't the only thing that matters, how you act outside of school also counts and can end up ruining your college life.

Let me tell you about this student, who was the best student at IB (International Baccalaureate) ,two year ago..I am pretty sure you have heard about him..Richard Smith.

He was considered one of the brightest minds in this school for over a decade. But that didn't mean he had the best life after living school. After being accepted to Harvard, he became an alcoholic due to the high levels of stress he had. So, he was expelled from the University, and no other University wanted to take him in. Now he works as a Janitor for the Peterson Mall.

Please, think this trough and do what's best from now on.

Yours Sincerely,

Camila Andino (College Councelor)

Google and Me

MYSELF

When I googled my name, I found that my twitter account was displayed there. I believe that this isnt a good thing, since basically anyone could look at my profile and what i am doing. I would take some measures to make my information safer and protecting it.

Maybe in the future I might need to be searchable, so that I can become known in companies and when applying to a job,I have access to many contacts. However, what I think is that the things that can bee seen in the internet about myself should be based on any rewards, prizes, maybe good things I have done, not access to my personal information.

Questions Homework

Questions:

1. How do you think you'll be using tech at school this year?
2. What are you interested in learning about?
3. How can you bring your personal skills/interests into your school work?

Answers:

1. I believe that this year I will be using technology as a tool to support me when doing my homework and at the same time learning. As well as this I believe it will help me when doing videos or editing certain images.
2.  This year, I am intrested in learning about video and image editing..using programs like photoshop (not only the basics) Also how to place various videos together and edit them using: Cyberlink Power Director 10, TMPGenc 4.0 and Lightworks. Also I would like to learn how to change the type(format) of a video..for instance from an .wlmp video file to a format that I can open in windows media.
3. I could bring my personal interests/ skills to my school work by maybe trying to use the things that Iknow I am somehow good at our like to do and applhying them to my work. For example, I could use some of the skills I have from Photoshop to create posters or things for homework. Maybe use my excel skills to present science investigations in computer-typed form.
